At Studio Sabai, you will receive a high quality therapeutic massage that is customized for your particular needs. To that end, many other techniques are used depending on what is called for within the session. A good massage therapist will have a "tool bag" full of techniques, and will pull out the appropriate tool for the situation, and if one doesnt work another one may be a better choice.
Some of the other techniques that you may experience at Studio Sabai include:
- Stretching and Movement - Stretching is a great way to help maintain the length in a muscle that is regained by the release of tight, tender areas in the muscle. Your therapist may take you through passive stretches, or ask you to actively stretch an area yourself. Sometimes, a leg or arm is taken through a passive range of motion, or ask you to help with that motion, again to help with release of tight and tender areas.
- Muscle Energy Techniques - Sometimes, your therapist will ask you to gently push or pull a body part against resistance. This is sometimes called resistive stretching, and can be helpful in releasing tension in an area, and assisting range of motion.
- Hydrotherapy - Hydro means water, and this can be in the form of heat or ice. Depending on what's going on in your body, either heat or ice may be used, always with your permission.
- Myofascial Release - this is a manual (using the hands) technique to stretch and release the fascia (connective tissue) that lies just under ths skin and covers and connects muscles, organs, and skeletal structures. It it used frequently in connection with other techniques, including deep tissue, trigger point work, and neuromuscular therapy.
- Other techniques may be used, and if you have questions about a technique you don't see here, feel free to ask. There are many styles and techniques used in massage, and a thorough understanding of the body allows many different techniques to be used in any particular situation.
