The year of pregnancy is a unique time for the body, filled with physical and emotional changes. Massage during this time can help relieve some of the muscular tension from changes in the body, and provide Mom the opportunity for greatly needed relaxation.
Massage can be helpful in all 3 trimesters of pregnancy, although in some cases it is best to wait until the 2nd trimester before beginning massage. This just gives your body time to adjust to the pregnancy and (usually) get over any nausea that occurs in the early stages. Massage can also be beneficial in the post-natal months, as your body (and you!) adjust to *not* being pregnant.
If there are any medical concerns with your pregnancy, it is best to check with your doctor prior to getting a massage. Occasionally, there may be medical reasons that suggest that massage may not be advised, or cautions need to be taken. Generally, however, massage makes those months of pregnancy much easier to get through!
